Kincy's name is often recorded as Kincy Lewis Davis -as written on his headstone - but his birth name was actually Lewis Kincy Davis. He was the namesake of his maternal grandfather, Lewis Kinsey. He was the son of James Thomas Davis and Hannah Kinsey Davis. He wrote in a letter to his sister, "Catherine: My name is Lewis Kincy Davis but I always wrote it as Kincy Lewis Davis because that is what folks call me".

Kincy owned the local lumber mill. He donated the lumber for the construction of the Methodist Church in Georgiana, AL. On the day that Kincy died, the church caught fire and burned to the ground.

A photo of the still-smoldering church can be seen on the right of this text.
