Homer Jorgenson, son of Theodore and Grace (Scribner) Jorgenson passed quietly from this life September 22, 2007 at the Cedars in Madrid, Iowa. Homer was a member of the Greatest Generation who quietly made their way through the Great Depression and World War II by working hard and fighting hard for the benefit of family and country, and then they quietly went about the task of putting it behind them and moving forward.

Homer was born June 23, 1916 in Comstock, Wisconsin. As a young man he helped his family by finding work at neighboring farms and later he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps building parks and other civic projects. When his country called on him he served five years in the Army. He was an anti-aircraft gunner in Alaska and served in the infantry in the European theater. When the war ended he was happy to return home to Ayrshire, Iowa and settle down with his wife, Maxine (Bowman) to raise his family in peace.
Homer ran a service station in Ayrshire for many years then had a second career as a county maintenance worker until his retirement. He served as the Town Treasurer for many terms and was a member of the American Legion for more than four decades. He and Maxine were lifetime members of the Ayrshire United Methodist Church.
Homer was a general handyman and enjoyed helping others in the community. He loved music and had a special talent for the harmonica. Woodworking, baseball and a love of nature were other interests. Not to sit idle long, he took up the game of golf, and excelled, when he was eighty years old! Card games, coffee and cookies, and traveling to see friends and family were important parts of Homer's life. His quick wit and easy-going ways made him a pleasant companion.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his grandson, Jason Clark, two brothers, Bernard and Jack, and many special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He is survived by two sons, Roger (Dixie) of Orlando, Florida and Richard (Jannette) of Boone, Iowa and one daughter Barbara Clark (Lee) of Sacramento, California. Also surviving are a sister, Hildred Nelson of Fairmont, Minnesota and a brother Leonard (Joyce) of Rochester, Minnesota. Eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and many nephews, nieces and cousins also survive him.
Homer was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle who will be remembered for his pleasant way and gentle spirit.
