James Wise is patriarch to many Wises from South Carolina to Texas and divergent points. He and Permelia Miller Wise settled in north Louisiana near Colquitt, Claiborne Parish, and many of their 16 children's descendants actively met via the internet until their Wise Guys project ended with the closing of the available site. Our project remains -- to determine whether Jesse Wise b 1787 SC is James' brother. Jesse's wives were Susanna Ferguson and Sarah Liddie Burke. Jesse Wise died by 1868 in Claiborne Par. LA.
The Wise Guys erected a monument in the Colquitt Cemetery, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, to James Wise and Permelia -- listing all their children for current and future researchers. Many Wises are buried in that cemetery. There is no proof yet that I know of for adding middle names to James Wise 1781-1858. Most attempts are conjectured names from other Wises of James' era.

The gravestone was on the ground in 3 pieces when I took the photo. Perhaps cattle knocked it down. I do not know who had the monument erected in the pasture. The stone reads:
