Funeral services for Evelyn R. Brunson, 98, of Grand River, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at the First Church Congregational, 22 Liberty St., Painesville.

Mrs. Brunson died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at home.

Born May 18, 1911, in the Village of Richmond (Grand River), Evelyn was the daughter of Giles and Adah Whitehurst.

Evelyn was married to Wilson Imbria Brunson Aug. 13, 1928, in Ripley, N.Y. The couple lived in Grand River and raised a son and a daughter.

Evelyn was appointed the postmaster of the Grand River Post Office, Oct. 15, 1947, by President Harry S. Truman. She served the Village of Grand River as postmaster until she retired on March 13, 1977. She belonged to the Ohio National Association of Postmasters of the United States and served as their vice president. Evelyn and Wilson loved to travel, and attended the state and national conventions of National Association of The United States.

Evelyn was a 4-H advisor. She served on the TB board and was appointed a lifetime member of the American Lung Association. She was an active member of the Lake County Historical Society, a member of Quota International of Lake County Inc. since 1969, and a charter member of the Blazettes, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Grand River Volunteer Fire Dept. and Lake County Democratic Women's Club. She received the Joseph Sarosy award. Her greatest joy was her family.

Evelyn was a member of the Grand River United Church of Christ where her ancestor, Hannah Duncan, was a founding member of the church.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Georgia (Leslie) Naughton; 10 grandchildren, Deborah (Daniel) Lilly, W. Robert (Teresa) Brunson, Kathleen (Dan) Seigfried, Lauren (Blake) Lunsford, Richard (Maria) Brunson, Wilson (Beth) Naughton, Marla (Mark) Andersen, Mark (Angela) Naughton, Ronald (Diane) Brunson and James (Jennifer) Brunson; 31 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilson; her son, Wilson Robert Sr.; infant daughter; and sisters, Marian (Thurman) Balance and Lucille (Frank) Toth.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at The Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home on Mentor Ave. in Painesville. Following the funeral on Tuesday, a reception will be held in the church's social room.
