Services for Charles Goodwin Abernathy, 84, of Aspermont will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Aspermont Church of Christ with Bob Philips officiating.

Burial will be in Aspermont Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Aspermont.

He died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003.

He was born July 11, 1918, in Brady. He was a rancher and farmer for 69 years and an independent oil producer. He was a World War II veteran.

He was a honorary life member of Stonewall County Jaycees. He donated land to the Church of Christ, where he was song leader and a fund-raiser. He donated land and founded the Aspermont Little League. He also donated land for the Aspermont Alcoholics Anonymous building.

He was chairman of the citywide clean-up campaign of 1983 and helped bring street signs to Aspermont. On Sept. 23, 1995, a day was named in his honor in Aspermont. He worked for Stonewall Senior Citizens Center for 21 years and played washtub in the Stonewall County Senior Citizens Rhythm Band.

Survivors include his wife, LaRue; a son, George of Aspermont; a daughter, Vicky Gilley of Aspermont; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Was a tax assessor, water superintendent, and a City (Aspermont) MARSHALL. He married to Alma Lee Aycock, (Feb 4 1889- June 18, 1965 ) the daughter of M. F. and Sallie P. Aycock. Thomas and Alma had these children: Alma Lee (Lum Rimes), La Rue (Abernathy), Louise (McEwen), Thomas N. (Billie Frazier), Vona Mae (Cade), Elnora (Britton), Sallie (Moore-Frazier), Jane Marie (Ayers),
