Born 4 Jan 1915 in the coal mining camp at Andersonville, Marion, Iowa she was the oldest of five children. Life for them was difficult but they got by in the minning camps until 17 Oct 1923. On that day her father died in a mine accident in Lovilia, Iowa. For the next few years she moved from family memeber to family member finally settling in Newton, Iowa with her mother and siblings in her father's mother's home in Newton, Iowa.
At age 13 since she was the oldest she quit school to help her mother support the family. She worked in cafe's and doing odd jobs.
On 26 Aug 1933 she married Arthur H Jones and they lived in Newton, Iowa. She would get a job working at the Maytag Manurfacturing Plant in Newton. She would retire from there some 30 years later.
She and Arthur never had children of their own but were favorites of there neices and nephews.
