OBITUARY :
MRS. ALVEY IS DEAD; WIDOW JUDGE ALVEY - Prominent Woman and Wife Of Leading Jurist Expires

MRS. JULIA JONES ALVEY, wife of the late Richard H. Alvey, Chief Justice of the Court of Appeals of the District of Columbia, and also former Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals of Maryland, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. J. V. Jamison, Jr., 102 South Prospect street, this morning at 8:45 o'clock, from paralysis.

Mrs. Alvey was born at Sharpsburg, this county in 1838, the daughter of Dr. Joseph Chaplin Hayes, and Mary Fales Hayes.

She was educated in Boston, and married Richard H. Alvey, a practicing young lawyer, at Hagerstown, in 1862, where she has lived continuously since. Judge Alvey was a paroled prisoner of war at the time of their marriage.

Mrs. Alvey was the mother of ten children. Those living are: William Alvey, connected with the Sante Fe Railroad, and living at Galveston, Texas; Frank Alvey, President of the First National Bank of Beaumont, Texas; Mrs. Julia Worthington, of Judge G. H. Worthington, of Frederick; Mrs. Margaret Allen, wife of J. A. G. Allen, of Darlington, Md., and Mrs. Anna Jamison, wife of J. V. Jamison, Jr., Hagerstown, Md.

The deceased was a life long member of St. John's Episcopal Church and the funeral will be from St. John's Church at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. The pallbearers will be her six grandsons, Richard and Martin Alvey, Richard and J. Clarke Worthington, James and Frederick Alvey.

Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery; services by Rev. Walter Byron Stahl.
