ENSIGN RONALD C. RIGSBY

Ensign Ronald C. Rigsby, 26, of U.S.Navy Air Station, Pensacola, Florida, was one of five men who died on Friday when their Navy Aircraft crashed in the Laguna Mountains near Julian, California, while on a low level training mission. He was a former Austin resident, where he was a member of Grace Covenant Church, and was employed by the State Board of Control for one and one-half years, was a 1972 graduate of the University of Houston, after which he was associated with the German Bible and Theological Institute in Saeheim, Germany. In 1976 he entered the Navy Flight Officers Candidate School.

Survivors include Parents: Col. and Mrs. Cecil Rigsby of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; three sisters: Toni Gatchell of Augusta, Georgia, Lisa G. Rigsby and Lori N. Rigsby, both of San Marcos, Texas; Grandmother: Mrs. Minnie A. Crisp of Clayton, New Mexico.

Funeral services 2:00 PM Friday in the Colonial Chapel of the Cook-Walden Funeral Home with Richard Flaton officiating. Burial with full military honors in the Austin Memorial Park.


Ron Rigsby is a Mayflower descendant through his mother. He is descended from Mayflower passengers James, Mrs Chilton and daughter Mary Chilton, Thomas Rogers and Richard Warren. He is a Sons of the Republic of Texas descendant through his father's line.
