LEADER IS VICTIM OF PLANE CRASH

DAVID REED, AUSTIN ONE OF TWO MEN FATALLY INJURED

MINE RUN. Va., May 3 (AP)-- Two men were killed and a third was injured in the crash of a four-passenger Beechcraft plane in Orange county last night.

Killed were Gilbert Wilson of Pittsburg, Texas, and David Reed of Austin, Texas. Injured was C. A. King of Dallas, Texas, who was reported in a critical condition today at a Fredericksburg hospital.

AUSTIN, May 3 (AP)--David Reed of Austin, killed in a Virginia plane crash last night, was one of Texas' outstanding cotton men and industrialists.

He was an associate in the E. H. Perry Co., cotton exporters. Reed's business interests were oil mills, gins, compresses, flour mills, cotton factories, ranches, farms, dehydrating plants.

He was born in Gabriel Mills, Williamson county, 65 years ago, the son of Tom Selden Reed, a pioneer Texas schoolteacher and merchant who came to the state in 1852. David Reed started his business career as a merchant and moved to Austin in 1914, when he became a junior partner in the E. H. Perry firm. In 1926, he was president of the Texas Cotton Association.

Reed was active in civic affairs here.

ONE COMPANION ALSO DIES, ANOTHER HURT IN VIRGINIA WRECK

AUSTIN, Mayo (sic) 3.(AP)--David Reed of Austin, killed In a Virginia plane crash last night, was one of Texas' outstanding cotton men and industrialists.

Also killed was Gilbert Wilson, of Pittsburgh, Texas.

C. A. King of Dallas was taken to a Fredericksburg, Va., hospital, where he was reported In a serious condition.

Statewide Interests.

Reed was an associate in the E. H. Perry Co., cotton exporters. His business interests were statewide and included cotton oil mills, gins, compresses, flour mills, cotton factories, ranches, farms, dehydrating pants. Reed's ranch interests extended from Menard, Texas, to New Mexico and he owned large farms In the vicinity of Lubbock and Alice.

He was a brother of Tom Reed of Beaumont.

David Reed was one of the first Texas business men to own an airplane and use it in keeping track of his extended business affairs. He first bought a plane 20 years ago.
