Son of John Robert Thomas II and Demphney "Dempsey" Pool. James was a member of Company C 31st Alabama Infantry CSA. He died at Fairground Hospital #2 in Atlanta and was buried in Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta on December 15, 1863.[Source: "Oakland Cemetery Book" website, Fairground Hospital #2, p. 61, row 35]His widow applied for a widow's pension in 1887.
Thomas family tradition has always been that His widow drove a wagon to Selma to bring his body home.
