Burnett Mary (Siege) Hansel, 91, Farmersburg, Iowa, died Monday, April 23, 2007, at the Guttenberg Care Center, Guttenberg, Iowa, following a short illness.

She was born August 23, 1915, the youngest daughter of Theodore and Alma (Herchart) Siege, on a farm in Garnavillo Township. Burnett was baptized at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo.

In 1920, the family moved to Guttenberg with her sister due to her father's failing health. She attended and graduated from Guttenberg Public School in 1934.

She was united in marriage to Dale E. Hansel of Colesburg, in 1937, at St. John's parsonage by Rev. Wm. Adix. Two daughters blessed their family, Mary Jane and Linda Lou.

Dale was a structural steel worker, so they moved a lot during the first ten years of marriage. Dale was unable to continue with this job, so they decided to settle down on a small farm near St. Olaf. After three years, they moved near Giard on a farm where they lived for twenty two years. The family joined St. John's Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, where she was confirmed by Rev. Emil Lehne. Burnett also taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was a member of the Luther League. They were faithful members of St. John's in Farmersburg during the time they lived at Giard. Dale's health was beginning to fail, so they built a home in Farmersburg. Burnette's mother, Alma Siege made her home with them until she passed away in 1973.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Jane (Fred) Riddle, Friendswood, TX and Linda (James) Seymour, Davenport; four grandchildren, Edward (Glenda) Riddle, Kristina (David) Croskery, all of the Houston, TX, area, Jennifer (Roger) Lusala, Michelle (Adam) Holdt; six great grandchildren, Keith Riddle, Michael Riddle, Caroline Grace Croskery, Collin Croskery, all of the Houston, TX, area, Lyndy Holdt, Julia, Olivia, Sophia and Claudia Lusala and one sister, Mabel Miller, Farmersburg.

Preceding Burnette in death were her father in 1932, her mother in 1973 and her husband in 1975
