William Erwin "Bill" Lowe was born June 14, 1869 in Mayfield, Kentucky. He married Ellena Russell in Mayfield, Kentucky, in 1888, and shortly afterwards the young couple migrated to Heber Springs, Arkansas. Both William and Ellena were nineteen when they left Kentucky.

Three years later and with two of their eleven children born, the young family migrated into Indian Territory and settled northeast of Ada in the Chickasaw township in October 1891. Bill immediately engaged in farming, which he continued until his retirement in 1930. He and his wife had nine more children after moving to Indian Territory/Oklahoma, one of whom died in 1903 as a three-month old infant, Annie Cora Lowe.

Bill and his family were enumerated in the 1910 Census for Chickasaw Twp of Pontotoc County, OK. (Dwelling #131): William E. Lowe (farmer)-head (40), Ellena (wife, 41), Elsie (dau, 15), Lillian (dau, 12), Eunice F. (son, 10), Albert C. (son, 6), Dora B. (dau 4), and Beulah (dau, 1). Their eleventh child was born in 1911; in all, there were three sons and eight daughters!!

Bill and Ellena were members of the Trinity Baptist Church.

In the summer of 1923 the family gathered for a family reunion in Ada, and the following article appeared in The Ada Weekly News.
Mrs. Josephene Usher and Mrs. Jane Meyers of Graves county, Kentucky, are visiting their brother, Mr. W.E. Lowe who lives two miles northeast of Ada. Mr. Lowe had not seen his sisters for thirty-five years. Mr. Lowe was a young man of nineteen years when he left Kentucky and came to the Indian Territory.
All of his children were at home Sunday, June 3, except one daughter, Mrs. J. W. [Myrtle Alice] Fullingim of Coleman, Okla. Those present were: Mr. E. R. [Enous R.] Lowe, Mrs. W. L. [Lillian] Smith, Mr. Eunice [Floyd] Lowe of Ada, Mrs. Henry [Susie J.] Eddings of Center, Mrs. Tom [Elsie] Teel of Vanoss and Mrs. Harrison [Dola] Ellis of Lula and their families. There are three single children at home, Albert [Carlson], Beulah, and Iva [Ora] Lee.
There were thirty-five present for dinner and in the afternoon they all had their pictures made and the young folks sang, which was enjoyed by all. It was a day of rejoicing, a day that will be long remembered, we pray God to keep and protect us and if we never meet again in this world we may meet where there will be a greater reunion than this and there will be no sad parting. —Contributed. (personal news article, "Family Renuion," The Ada Weekly News, Ada, Oklahoma, Thursday, June 7, 1923, page 5, col. 3).
