Rosa Ashe Battle was born 1879 in Raleigh, Wake County, NC the 9th of 10 known surviving children (6 boys/4 girls) born to CSA veteran and attorney Richard Henry Battle and his wife, Annie Ruffin Ashe.

She was the paternal grandchild of Superior Court Judge William Horn Battle & Lucy Martin Plummer of Raleigh; and gr-grandchild of Col. Joel Battle & Mary Palmer Johnston of Edgecombe County. She is a direct descendant of this family's patriarch, J. John Battle (1634-1691) who immigrated from England to the Virginia Colonies in 1654 with his family and a number of relatives and neighbors settling on the west Fork of the Nansemond River in a district since known as Nansemond County, Virginia. On her mother's side, she was the maternal grandchild of Superior Court Judge Thomas Samuel Ashe & Caroline Burgwyn, of Anson County, and descended from prominent families on all sides of her family tree.

On November 14, 1904 the 25 year old married 28-year old Dr. Robert Bascom Miller, son of Dr. James F. Miller & Sarah Bascom of Goldsboro. The couple would become parents to 1 known child: Ann Battle Miller (c. 1906).

Rosa was widowed in 1948 when her husband of 44 years passed at age 72. She survived him 14 years, passing in 1962 at age 83.
