Charles Bruce
Charles Elmer Bruce, 78, of White Hall and formerly of Patterson, died Saturday morning, June 11, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 6, 1909, in Hillview, son of John L. and Ruth V. Martin Bruce. He married Hazel Farmer Barnett on March 19, 1966, in Winchester.
He is survived by his wife; one son, Roland of White Hall; one daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Norma) Breckon of White Hall; two stepsons, Danny L. Barnett of Milton and Richard Mike Barnett of Brighton; one stepdaughter, Bonita Reed of Truman, Ark.; seven grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Robert; one stepson, Roger Barnett, two sisters; and one brother.
Mr. Bruce was a member of Hillview Baptist Church and was ward supervisor at the Jacksonville State Hospital, retiring in 1975.
Services were held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, at Hillview Baptist Church with burial at Pine Tree Cemetery in Patterson. Memorials may be made to Hillview Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.

Services for Charles Elmer Bruce were held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, at Hillview Baptist Church with the Rev. William Smith officiating. Organist Bonnie Strowmatt accompanied Ruby Bowman who sang "We Are Going Down The Valley" and "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers were Earl McEvers, Bill Dunlap, Darrell Ford, Bernard Bowman, Bill Newingham and Jerry Little. Burial was at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall was in charge of arrangements.
