As time passed, he began collecting patches from various law enforcement agencies and eventually his shop office walls were covered by patches and other memorabilia. He was known for his love of Harley Davidson, riding, and his daschunds.
Several weeks before his death, he gave his heart and soul to Jesus Christ remarking how peaceful he finally felt. One of his final wishes was to share his discovery of that peace. "Why did I wait so long?"
His memorial service was attended by so many whose lives he'd touched in some way. There were personnel and vehicles from several law enforcement agencies, EMS, fire departments, members of the local Harley Club on their bikes, and several wrecker companies on their own trucks. Tommy helped so many get started by hiring and training them and then helping them get started in their own business.
Tommy was placed on the back of his rollback truck after the service and, as he requested, his daughter 'checked the straps' a final time. He was then taken for a ride past his shop on Wilkinson Blvd in Lowell. This eclectic parade of vehicles and friends were witness to an amazing outpouring of love and respect by those along the way. Firemen stood with their helmets held at chest level, whitegloved policemen with their hats over their heart, heads bowed, friends and aquaintances standing outside their cars with hands over their hearts....a sight to truly behold. A man whose memory will live.
His distinct laugh and sense of humor will forever be remembered by those many people who loved him and will miss him. The legacy he has left will echo on in Gaston County and beyond...
We miss you, Tommy.
