PIONEER CITIZEN DIED TUESDAY
———
After Long Illness Mrs. J.P. Fullingim Goes To Her Reward
———
Mrs. J. P. Fullingim, affectionately known to her many friends as "Aunt Ann," age 81 years, and an honored and beloved citizen of this community for almost three-quarters of a century, died at her home Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock, following a long illness [31 July 1928]. Funeral services, attended by a large number of sorrowing friends and relatives, were held at the family residence Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock, and interment followed at Oak Lawn cemetery.

This good lady had been in failing health for a long time, and her passing had been expected for several days. In her death, Decatur and Wise County lose one of their foremost and substantial citizens; one who assisted in giving to this generation what it enjoys today. An early-day settler in this community when this section was in the making, she did her part in blazing the way for the onward march of civilization, and in the evening of her eventful life she enjoyed the wonderful benefits she gave so much to bringing about. She was outstanding in her character: in her life as wife, mother and friend; she followed closely the teachings of her God, and her daily walk reflected the sweet, consistent and loving faith she had. She was true to her ideals, and her noble deeds on this sphere will live and endure as long as the best and most noble in life's journey is cherished in the hearts of men and women of this vale.

Surviving are the husband, Uncle Jess, who trod the path of life with this good woman for more than sixty years; one son, Dr. M. D. Fullingim of Denton, two daughters, Mrs. C. C. Chance of Leihigh, Okla., Mrs. P. E. Wade of Fort Worth and two adopted children, Mrs. Perdue of Wichita Falls, and Miss Emma Mothis.
(Printed Obituary, unidentified newspaper though probably The Wise County Messenger.)
