Louise Alderson passed away peacefully in Colville on January 22, 2018. Louise was born on July 16, 1927 in the family home 17 to 18 miles northeast of Colville on upper Mill Creek to Earl and Laura (Monotour) Herrick.

Louise started out as a strong young woman on her families homestead up Mill Creek where she attended Bonayre School until it closed. At which time her father built her and her two younger brothers a small wood frame building, covered with a tarp; that the children would stay in down at the Mill Creek School during the week by themselves only to return on the weekends. When finished at Mill Creek School, Louise and her siblings then camped in an out building of a friend who lived near Colville for one year until the family moved to town; allowing her the ability to attend and graduate from high school in 1946. This accomplishment was one of Louise's proudest moments.

Louise became engaged to her husband, Calvin, on St. Patrick's Day in 1946, and was married shortly after she graduated the same year. Louise would share, with a giggle, that she always had three stipulations before she would ever marry anyone: She would never marry a farmer, she must have a wedding dress and she must have a ring. She would chuckle and say, "I got married in my blue graduation dress to a farmer without a ring." Louise knew that there must be something very special about the man that turned out to be the love of her life because her father never approved of Calvin. Immediately after the union of Louise and Calvin they camped at several different job sites of Calvin's from June until October when they were able to move into the existing home. Louise and Calvin made the old homestead their home where they welcomed and raised their three children.

In the fall of 1964, Louise took a position at JC Penny's in Colville, where she worked until she retired in July of 1989. Louise completely enjoyed her work, allowing her to share her many jokes or funny stories with whoever she met. Louise always found the vacation time she was allotted each year just fantastic. She was quoted on one vacation as saying, "Can you believe I am being paid for this?" After her retirement, Louise was taught by her son, Dan, how to shoot. She enjoyed casual shooting as well as hunting white tail and coyote. Shooting a very nice white tail buck in the fall of 1994, rivaling the buck that husband Calvin had shot the same year. Louise regularly enjoyed giving Calvin a little bit a tough time about her "first place" buck and Calvin's "2nd place" buck; all in good humor of course. Louise was always proud to help with controlling the coyote population. On Christmas 2001 this fact was represented once again when she left the dinner table to go to the corner of the fence by the old barn taking aim at a coyote lingering too long down in the lower property; dropping the coyote where he stood.

Louise embraced the changes of the world and moved with that change with grace. Going from her family's sole mode of transportation of horse and wagon to being able to hop in a car to the airport and take her first flight of her life to Oakland, CA in 1969 to visit her son in the Navy Hospital. Also in 1970, she and her husband Calvin would take their first road trip to southern Idaho to visit his relatives he had not seen since the early 1930's. This would be the beginning of many road trips and flights to come in the future.

Louise was known as a character with a great sense of humor who loved her family. She will be deeply missed.
