Keith Irvin Petersen was one of three children of Ezra S. Petersen and Alice M. "Holmes" Petersen, and was born on a farm near Ruskin and Hardy on October 12, 1925.

He was baptized as an infant at the Hardy Union Church and confirmed at Abdal, Nebraska by Rev. Immanuel Petersen.

He was educated at Hardy, graduating from the Hardy High School in 1942. On April 26, 1946, he was married to Evelyn G. Troudt at Mankato, Kansas. Keith and Evelyn had four children, Radonda, Leeann, Dale, and Larenda.

Most of Keith's life was spent farming and working as a mechanic for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads. They made their home in Bostwick, Hardy, Superior and York, Nebraska.

He had several hobbies and past times, which included his flower and vegetable gardens. Roses and glads were his favorite flowers. He enjoyed his woodworking, making lawn ornaments and nick-nacks, which he enjoyed giving away as gifts to his friends and family.

Keith passed away on February 28, 1987, in the York General Hospital at the age of 61 years, 4 months and 16 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother Floyd, and a sister Velma, who died as a child.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn of York, Nebraska; three daughters, Radonda Rakestraw of York, Nebraska, Leeann Petersen of Superior, Nebraska, Larenda Whiting and her husband Bill of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one son, Dale Petersen and his wife Julie of Hastings, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Devin and Chantelle Rakestraw of York and Curtis Whiting of Colorado Springs; many other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 4, 1987, at 2:00 p.m. from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Harold Kaufmann officiating. Music was provided by Carol Shambaugh, soloist, singing "The Old Rugged Cross," "Beyond The Sunset" and "One Day At A Time" with Carlita Price as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were Berwyn Petersen, Kenneth Nelson, Kenneth Jensby, Rex Sykes, Don Andreasen, and Glenn Andreasen. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery near Superior, Nebraska. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements.
