Mrs. Daniel G. Allshouse
Verba Catherine (Wolfgang), wife of Daniel G. Allshouse, died at her home on Brookville R.D. 3 at 4 o'clock in the morning of May 10 from burns and complications as the result of an explosion of kerosene oil on December 28 last. She was 36 years 9 months and 3 days old.
Mrs. Allshouse was severely burned when she attempted to hasten a fire in the kitchen stove with kerosene. The oil can exploded, enveloping her in flames which also spread to the clothing of her youngest daughter. Two others standing near smothered the flames on the clothing of their mother and sister but not before Mrs. Allshouse was badly burned about the body, face, neck, and lower limbs. The daughter was not so severely burned. For weeks it was expected that Mrs. Allshouse would recover, but complications developed which resulted in her death.
The deceased was born in Jefferson County on August 7, 1893, a daughter of Simon J. and Alice Catherine Wolfgang. She was twice married, her first husband being Lawson Kunselman of Coolspring. Mr. Kunselman died a number of years ago, and on April 19, 1921, she was united in marriage to Mr. Allshouse, the ceremony being performed in Brookville, by Rev. W.H. Brown.
Surviving Mrs. Allshouse are her husband and three daughters by her first marriage--Dorothy A., Myrna B., and Edith M. Kunselman. Two daughters by her second marriage died in infancy. Her mother died on October 18, 1918, but she is also survived by her father and the following six sisters and two brothers: Mary I., wife of Wayne Babcock, St. Louis, Mo.; Maggie O., wife of J.E. Kennedy, Brookville R.D. 3; Annie M., wife of James Gaston, Brookville R.D. 2; Velma B., wife of Samuel Means, Punxsutawney R.D. 5; Mabel A., wife of Floyd Means, Punxsutawney R.D. 5; Esther E., wife of Francis Jones, Bradford; David H. Wolfgang, of Bradford; and Harry L. Wolfgang, of Marienville.
Funeral services were held at Grace Lutheran church last Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in charge of the pastor, Rev. L.J. Kaufman, and interment was made in the Ramsaytown cemetery. The pallbearers were four brothers-in-law, J.E. Kennedy, James Gaston, Samuel Means and Floyd Means, and Irvin and Ralph Allshouse.
