Grace I. Gerhard, 87, of Blairsville (Derry Township), died Monday, June 8, 2009, in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. Born Oct. 4, 1921, in Derry, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Dorothy (Powers) Sindorf. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Blairsville. She sang in the church choir and belonged to the Monday Night Music Club. Grace enjoyed china painting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, cooking and loved gardening. She had worked for Dr. Furnary as a receptionist and also as a secretary at Derry Area High School. Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Travally M. "Mac" Gerhard; two daughters, Karen Brown, Uncasville, Conn., and Deborah Tinsley and husband Randy, Blairsville; seven grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; a sister, Jean Riddell, Daytona Beach, Fla.; and three brothers, Richard Sindorf, Florida, William Sindorf, Ligonier, and Paul Sindorf, Detroit, Mich. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gerald; a daughter, Judith Conant; four sisters, Ruth Heischman, Jessie Reed, Dorothy Johnson and Roberta Sindorf; and a brother, Robert Sindorf. Friends were received at the James F. Ferguson Funeral Home, Blairsville, where services were held Thursday with the Rev. Terry Shaffer officiating. Interment was in Blairsville Cemetery.
