Miriam Vilate Decker was first married to Louis Edwin Granger, 8 Aug 1868 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were later divorced, but family members said Louis was the love of her life.
Miriam died from TB,at the age of 40, leaving five children. Louis Edwin and Henry Corydon went to live with their father, Louis Edwin Granger, and step-mother, Nellie Mabel Angell in Chicago. They attended a Catholic boarding school there. They spent summers in Utah.
Miriam's husband; George Benton Davis, wasn't able to care for his three sons. Charles Decker Davis, Ray Davis and George Benton Davis were placed in an orphanage. Charles Decker Davis was later adopted by his uncle; Lorenzo Dow Young. When Lorenzo died, Charles said he was on his own. It seems that he would go to different relatives and friends homes.
