Funeral services for Robert H. Anthis, 85, of New Albany, was held on Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann and Naville Funeral Homes, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. He died Monday, July 31, 2006, at Green Valley Care Center.
He was a native of Louisville. He was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and also worked at WREY as a sales manager and sports director. He enlisted into the Army Air Corps in 1942 as a member of the 8th Air Corps, 91st Bomb Group, 401st Squadron. He was a radio/gunner on a B17 and received the Purple Heart.
He was a member of St. John United Presbyterian Church, American Legion Bonnie Sloan Post, V.F.W. Hobart Beach Post, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Lewis Lodge F. & A.M., York Rite, Scottish Rite, National Sojourners and Silver Wing Fraternity. He was active in the community with Junior ROTC, and helped organize Memorial Day and Veterans Day programs in New Albany.
Survivors include his three daughters, Judy Anthis, Kathy Haynes and Roberta Crevolin and her husband, Sandy; two grandsons, Chris Harris and his wife, Jackie and Michael Liebert and his wife, Kari; and a great-granddaughter, Sarah Liebert.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn L. Anthis; his parents, Ross and Mary Louise Anthis; and a sister, Betty Lee Helder.
