Name: Ara Dell Seaberry, 90
Ara Dell Seaberry died Wednesday, November 04, 2009, in Weatherford, Texas. Dell was born on August 9, 1919 to Rev. and Mrs. R.E Bass in Crossroads, Texas. She was the youngest of 7 children and followed her preacher father all over the State of Texas before the family settled in Ft. Worth where she graduated from Polytechnic High School. She attended Weatherford Jr. College and received her degree in education from Texas Wesleyan College. Not many people know that she loved baseball and could often be found in front of the television watching the Rangers. When she was a small girl in Ft. Worth, the preachers were given free tickets to the Fort Worth Cats home games. She said the ticket said "admit one preacher and his lady". Since her mother did not want to attend Dell became the lady and thus started a love of baseball.
At the Weatherford College homecoming in 1944 arrangements were made for Dell to meet Borden Seaberry a young lawyer in Weatherford who also happened to be in charge of the homecoming festivities. They met on the campus and Borden asked Dell to go with him to the gym to check on the decorations. The gym was across the street from the campus, but Borden told her he would drive her there. He had a car and she was impressed. Ninety days and a great deal of begging later Dell married Borden in a small church in White Settlement. They lived in Weatherford where Borden practiced law and built houses and Dell raised two children. They attended the Presidential Inaugurations for President Kennedy and President Johnson. They were married less than 24 years when at the age of 48 Dell became a widow from the sudden passing of her husband in 1967. Since that time Dell worked for Weatherford High School where she was assistant librarian and owned and operated Town House Apartments where she lived until moving to assisted living. She passed away on November 4, 2009.
Dell was preceded in death by her husband, her mother and father, her sister and her five brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Dell Lindsey and her husband Michael of Dallas, her son Borden Glenn Seaberry and his wife Sandy of Dallas; her granddaughter Nikki Lynn Self and her husband Craig and their two sons Casey and Devin of Cypress, Texas and her grandson Trevin Shane Seaberry and his wife Renee of Carrollton, Texas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews living across the US.
Dell was very active in the First Baptist Church of Weatherford for 65 years where she sang in the choir and where she sang Sunday morning solos on numerous occasions. She loved music and singing and would sing anytime someone asked. She played the piano by ear and could play any song anyone could hum. While living in Weatherford Dell had many friends. Over the years she was also active in the Garden Club, the Twentieth Century Club, Live Oak Country Club, Meals on Wheels, the Cancer Society and what was referred to in the family as "the Bridge Club." .
In 2003 Weatherford College presented her with the Outstanding Alumni Award. Dell would volunteer for everything. She was the homeroom mom, the President of PTA, the drive the kids anywhere/anytime lady and could make a costume for a play out of anything.
She was generous, she was happy, she was always smiling, she loved to sing and she was our mom.
(In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church choir or the Carlos Hartnett Scholarship Fund at Weatherford College.)
