Charles Disbro was born August 13, 1825 in Longpoint, Ontario, Canada.

He was the son of Israel & Phebe Jane Disbro.

Charles first married Mary Fuller Andrews, on April 8, 1841 in Marietta, Washington Co., Ohio.

Charles, Mary and their daughter, Joanna moved from Ohio to Dearborn Co., Indiana, about 1846. They were living in Sparta Twp. in 1850, but later moved to Clay Twp.

They were the parents of eight children:

1) Joanna E. (B: 1845)
2) James M. (B: 1847)
3) Maryetta (B: 1849)
4) Charles R. (died at birth)
5) William Henry (B: 1856)
6) Charles H.
7) Maggie
8) Mary

Charles enlisted in the "Civil War" on August 2, 1862 at Indianapolis as a private in Co. B, 4th IN Cavalry.

At Nebo, Tennnessee, July of 1862, he incurred rupture of stomach by a horse falling on him while acting as Veterinary Surgeon. In February of 1863 he contracted measles at Henderson, KY, resulting in rheumatism.

Near Madisonville, KY, Oct. 1862, he received a gunshot wound in his left leg above the ankle during a fight with the enemy. By June of 1864, his sight in both eyes seriously impaired by measles, cold & exposure at Atlanta, GA, he also contracted scurvy from eating salt meat and no vegetables. He was treated in the field hospital and discharged June 29, 1865 at Edgefield, TN.

Mary died April 19, 1869 in Guinsville, Dearborn Co., Indiana.

On April 10, 1870 he married Mary Jane Calvert Cloud in Dearborn County, Indiana. She was the daughter of John & Elizabeth Calvert.

Charles & his 2nd wife, Mary were the parents of three boys:

1) Thomas Benton
2) John Boon (B: Dec. 15, 1870)
3) Ira Filden (B: Oct. 28, 1872)

Mary died May 21, 1926 in Ohio County, Indiana.
