Mrs. Shirley May Turnbaugh, 65, of 328 1/2 South 8th died at 4:10 a.m. Saturday (August 15, 2009) in Blessing Hospital.

Born May 13, 1944 in Summer Hill, Illinois, Shirley was a daughter of Raymond and Mary Baughman Baxter. She was married to John Eliott in 1962. She later married Bobby Joe Turnbaugh. He preceded her in death in 2002.


Shirley was employed at Louisiana Plastics for many years and then as a personal Health Care Assistant at Smith Barr
Manor Nursing Home in Louisiana, Missouri prior her retirement.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Dawn Elliott of Peoria, IL, and Brenda Kay Van Hooser of Mississippi; four grandchildren, Felicia Dawn Elliott, and DeLawn Tardell Elliott, both of Quincy, Natasha Antoinette Scott Kelley of Peoria, IL and Kevin Dewitt Scott II of Quincy; and one great-granddaughter, Marques Renee Gibbons. Also surviving are three brothers, Clarence Baxter of Louisiana, MO, Charles Baxter of Pittsfield, IL, and Alvin Baxter of New Salem, IL; and one sister, Mary Williams of Vandalia, MO.

Mrs. Turnbaugh was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, John William Elliott Jr.; one sister, Alice Tobias; two brothers, David Baxter and Raymond Baxter; and one great granddaughter, Belicia Elliott.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 in Quincy Memorial Park by the Rev. George Tomko.

Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon from 12:00 - 12:45 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Shirley Turnbaugh Memorial Fund.
