He was the son of Mary Lucas and Joseph Robinson (1742-1820). Joseph was born at Windham, CT and moved to Irish Corners in 1766. This Robinson family were from Colerain, Ireland whereby their progenitor, Peter Robinson (grandfather of Joseph), settled at Martha's Vineyard. Joseph Robinson was in the muster roll of Capt. Elijah Dewey's company at the battle of Bennington. This Robinson family was not related to the Robinsons whom founded Bennington.
