From the Dade County Advocate, August 17, 1911-- Everton Superintendent Weds--
There was a wedding of unusual interest at the home of Mrs. Veda Morris, aunt of the bride, in Dadeville, August 2nd, at 3:15 pm, in which Professor Robert D. Cowan of Aldrich, MO, and Miss Ingalls Gyles, of Hereford, Texas, were united in the holy bonds of matrimony by Rev. W.R. Russell, pastor of the Everton Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Cowan is one of the most promising young men of this section of the country. He is a fine scholar, having taken a course in the State University, and stands in the front rank of our educators. He is now superintendent of the Everton schools. His bride is the accomplished daughter of our former citizens and friends, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Gyles now of Hereford, Texas. We congratulate the Professor on his wise selection of such a noble young woman for his life companion.
Mr. and Mrs. Cowan will be at home in Everton, to their friends after August 25.

Aurora (Special) - Dr. Robert D Cowan, 84, a well known physician who served several terms as Aurora mayor, died in his home here at 11:45 am Monday, after a lingering illness.

A native of Dadeville, Dr. Cowan practiced medicine in Aurora for many years before retiring several years ago. He was a graduate of the University of Missouri and The St. Louis School of Medicine.

He was one of the founders of the Aurora hospital and served on its board of directors. Prior to the founding of the Aurora hospital Dr. Cowan operated his own hospital here.

A long-time civic leader, Dr. Cowan and the late J Finis King, also a former mayor, were honored jointly several months ago by a Missouri House resolution, noting work of the two leaders in civic improvements such as the armory, parks, city schools and in starting zoning procedures here.
Also mentioned were efforts on behalf of crippled children in surrounding counties when there were no federal funds available for this work.

Surviving Dr. Cowan are his wife, Ingalls; daughter Mrs Wilfred E Wooldridge, Springfield; son Robert J, Houston, Texas; and a sister Mrs. Mina Alder, Stockton.
