Andrew Weed, the first son of Reuben Weed and Martha Messor Weed, had a long and distinguished servce record in the Revolutionary War. He served in the Militia in the reduction of Charleston in the early days of the war and later on the western frontier, (Tennessee), fighting the English-Cherokee affiliation.

The stud indent records show Andrew Weed being issued on June 7, 1785, eight pounds, 1/5 sterling with annual inerest of 11.3 sterling for his militia duty as a private before and since the reduction of Charleston.

Following the war, Andrew Weed married Mary Gray, (court records show the spelling as Gray) and they settled down to lead a long and productive life on the western side of old Abbeville District, South Carolina. A land record according to a survey dated June 17, 1785, shows Andrew Weed with 300 acres in Long Cane bounded by Arthur Murrow. He also, according to records had land near Mount Carmel adjoining land owned by Thomas M. Finley. Andrew Weed was active, along with the rest of his family, in the affairs of the community. Several estate records list him as an active participant in the inventorying, administrating and settling of estates--including property purchases.

Andrew and Mary Gray Weed were active members in the Willington ARP Church and both are buried there in the church cemetery. Andrew Weed was known as Major Andrew Weed in the golden years of his life for his service in the Revolutionary War.

Major Andrew and Mary Weed's markers are off their bases and were laying on top of each other. They are readable and now are beside each other on the ground--may be off the gravesite a little.
