Killed at the Battle of Bear creek.
Obituary:
Killed in battle, near Vicksburg, on the 22d of June, 1863, Mr. JOHN MANN, of Company A, 4th Iowa Cavalry, in the 27th year of his age.
The deceased entered the service last August as a recruit for the 4th Iowa cavalry, since which he has been in active service in Arkansas and Mississippi. He was a young and enterprising citizen of our county, and bid fair for a life of honor and usefulness, but is one of thousands of young and promising men that this wicked rebellion has sent to untimely graves-
His aged father and mother, brothers, sisters and friends, lament his sudden and violent death: yet he died a martyr to his country, a true patriot and a Christian soldier.
