Polycarp Joseph1 Domingues MD [Poly] (Donatien "Donacien", 2). Born, 9
Aug 1869, in St Mary Par, LA, (now Iberia Par)1. Died, 30 May 1954, in
Kerrville, TX. Baptism in Cath. Ch., Lydia, old Patoutville, LA2. Burial: 1 Jun 1954, in Glen Rest Cem, Kerrville, TX3. Occupation: Physician.

PJD personal notes: "I was born just across the road from where the old
{Donatien} home was later built, about the site of the former home of Felix
Domingues -- Aug 9th 1869 --- I just barely remember when the carpenters were
building the house --- my uncle Emile Leblanc and a Mr Euvalie Bonin -- or
perhaps Louviere".

He was Baptized "Polycarpe" at St. Nicholas Church in what once was the
village of Patoutville, LA. The Church was established in 1868 (on land donated by the Patout family of France) before the Jeanerette church and records begin that year - the original records burned but a microfilm copy was available and the Pastorate in 1992 is in Lydia, LA.

He took the name Joseph for his Confirmation while attending St Mary's
College, St Mary's, in St Mary Kentucky, near Lebanon in Marion County. An
original certificate dated the 9th of June, 1888 notes the confirmation by
Bishop McCloskey of Louisville, KY and is held by Roquey Jobes. Today there is a Kentycky Historical marker near the old college which says: "Oldest extant Catholic College for men west of the Alleghanies and third oldest in the nation. Founded in 1821 by Reverand William Byrne. Conducted by the Jesuit Fathers, 1833-1846, by the Holy Cross Fathers, 1846-1848, by the Diocesan Fathers, 1848-1869. Closed 1869-1871. Directed by the Resurrection Fathers since 1871." A commemorative medal of the college's 100th anniversary in 1921 is also in the posession of R G Jobes. In 1985 R G Jobes visited the location and found the complex had been turned into a KY State penal institution.

Polk's New Orleans City Directory, Vol 20, 1893, lists Polycarpe Dominguez,
"student, r. 308 Canal". He graduated from Tulane Medical School 20 April 1893.

He began his practice of medicine near his home in Iberia Parish
Louisiana. It is reported that his photograph appeares in the hospital in New
Iberia, LA as one of the founding fathers.

His personal notes indicate he left Louisiana for Texas 10 April 1898 and arrived in Kerrville, Texas 17 April 1898. He returned to Louisiana and was married in Jeanerette 1 June 1898. His medical practice was resumed in
Kerrville about October or November 1898. Doctor dropped the "e" from his name Polycarp to make it shorter.

"Poly" heard his father speak of their Spanish descent but he knew little except it once was Dominguez. The French language became paramount to the Spanish in the 1800's, an "s" replaced the "z" and Domingues was pronounced "Domang". Some earlier and other family lines have droped the "s" although most of this family retained the spelling with "S".

In Polycarp's notes of 1942 he knew: 1. His paternal grand-mother was a
Broussard with Acadian connections and that there was some connection to a
"Beausoleil" Broussard but did not know how. 2. Knew nothing on the Migues(z) origin - Only that "Two Migues came to N. I. on the same boat = two brothers as told by my mother, and older aunts"...
"Migues came from Spain = All Spanish possessions were called SPAIN = and one
Aunt spoke of her ancestors coming from Canary Islands = ..."
"Salvador, {This is an error - it was Bernard George Miguez}, married Romero,
therefore we are kin to all Romeros = Salvador {?BGM?} had many children = One
was Bernard my GrandFather, whom I remember - Bernard married Locadie Etie,
whos mother was Borel = ......" {This is Bernard Jr who died 1865 - PJD born
1869}
"= my mothers Grand Father who had Several Sons = all Short in Stature - The
other tall and not so many Sons - ..." {{{This would have been Bernard George
with 8 sons and Salvador his brother with 5 sons -- both sons of Miguel Romero one of the New Iberia founders}}}}}

Doctor purchased a small home at 412 Water Street in Kerrville when he
moved there. The home was expanded, his children were born and raised here and this was the family home where he died in 1954.

As a doctor to the community of Kerr County he delivered over 1000 babiesand was proud of the fact that he never lost a baby or a mother. About 1910 he established the Kerrville Drug Company with his medical office in a building constructed for him by Captain Charles Schreiner. This building at the corner of Water and Sidney Baker streets was later revised into the old Charles Schreiner Bank and another Drugstore and office was built next to the Bank.

He married4 Evelyn Martha Bowman [Mrs Domingues] {see Bowman genealogy}, 1 Jun 1898, in Jeanerette, LA5. Born, 12 Oct 1874, in LA. Died, 28 Nov 1946, inKerrville, TX. Baptism in Catholic Ch., Patterson, LA6. Occupation: Homemaker
