Lawrence moved to Maine in 1963 and worked at Inmont Corp. in Winthrop for eight years. He later worked for the Maine Turnpike Authority as a toll booth operator for 10 years until his retirement in 1985.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn Ramsdell, and three sisters, Treva Matthews, Florence McConnell and Winifred Boyd.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Poulin) Matthews of Manchester; a son, Larry D. Matthews and his wife, Penney Dyer, of South Portland; stepsons Richard Poulin of Gorham, Paul Poulin of Portland and Ronald Poulin of Augusta; stepdaughter Jackie Millett of Chelsea; a sister, Lena McKenzie of Calais; and several nieces and nephews.
At his request, there will be no visiting or services. Burial will occur in Manchester Forks Cemetery, Manchester. (Kenebec Journal 11/2/2009)
