Clay E. Scales, a retired heavy equipment operator, died in the Bridgeport Hospital Christmas morning after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home east of Chico.

A veteran, he was born in Alvord on November 23, 1908, and was married to the former June Bell Hastings on August 15, 1967, in Chico. He was a member of the Chico Masonic Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Morris Memorial Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Morris Memorial Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Widicus, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Chico Cemetery under the direction of Hawkins Funeral Home of Bridgeport.

Pallbearers were Billy Bell, Dan Martin, Billy Guy Fahnstock, Jimmy Dan Fahnstock, Audie Morris, and David Reasoner.

Survivors include his wife of Chico; one daughter, Mrs. Kathy Hill of Euless; two grandchildren, Sandy and Jennifer Hill of Euless, and one sister, Mrs. Kathleen Hatten of Iowa Park.

Clay Eugene Scales, 69, of Chico died Sunday, Dec. 25 at Bridgeport Hospital.

Services were held Tuesday at Morris Memorial Methodist Church in Chico. The Rev. Paul Whidicus officiated with burial in Chico Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Billy Bell, Billy G. and Jimmy Dan Fahnstock, Dan Martin, David Reasoner and Audy Morris.
