First pioneer of Manchester, New York

Joab Gillet was born on November 6, 1747 in Simsbury, Hartford County, Connecticut. His parents were Jacob Gillet and Lydia Phelps. He was a Private in Connecticut's 5th Regiment under Col. Philip Burr Bradley, an he was the first pioneer of Manchester, New York. Joab married Sarah Adams (daughter of Pelatiah Adams and Sarah Phelps) on July 1, 1766 in East Granby, Hartford County, Connecticut. They had eight children named Amasa, Sarah, Hepzibah, Lydia, Joab, Ruth, Asabub, and Anna. Joab died on March 20, 1824 in Manchester, Ontario County, New York.
