Myrtle Hammett, the last surviving of 12 children of Jens P. Jensen and Kristin (sic) (Petersen) Jensen, was born May 16, 1905, on a farm near Hardy, Nebraska. She passed away June 22, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska, at the age of 94 ears, 1 month and 6 days.

She was baptized and confirmed in Bethany Lutheran Church and was presently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hardy.

Myrtle attended Churchill rural school and graduated from Hardy High school in 1924. She taught in rural Nuckolls County schools.

October 25, 1926, Myrtle was united in marriage to Merle Hammett at her parents home. This union was blessed with two children, Doris and Harold. They made their home on farms near Nora, Nebraska, and Olive Hill, Kansas, until they moved to Superior in 1972.

She was a member of Lutheran Church Women and VISP, Visually Impaired at Shickley.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Merle, on October 31, 1981; one son, Harold; three grandchildren, Curtis Hammett and twins, Dean and Darlene Stenson; four brothers, Jens, Peter, Soren and Harry Jensen; and seven sisters, Mary Goldbeck, Anna Jeppesen, Hattie Jensen, Edna Soper, Lela Magee, Mae McCutcheon and Tina Nelson.

Survivors include one daughter, Doris Stenson of Fort Collins, Colorado, one daughter-in-law, Sylvia Hammett of Ft. Collins, Colorado; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 26, 1999, at 11 a.m., at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hardy, Nebraska, with Pastor Howard Schroeder officiating. Music was congregational singing of "Amazing Grace", with Ernestine Hoyer as organist. Pallbearers were Dean McGowan, Delbert Roper, John Jensen, Harvey Petersen, Ward Aurand, Wesley Jensen and Willard McCutcheon. Interment was in the Hardy Cemetery. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of arrangements.
