~0bit~John Charles Church, died last Thursday, February 2nd, at 1:15 P.M. Mr. Church was living on the Graves farm, south of this city. The funeral services were held on Saturday, at 1:30 P.M. at Troy Mills, The remains were laid to rest there. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. K. Hawkins. He was born May 23, 1859, near Troy Mills. On August 14, 1890 he was united in marriage to Luetta Keller. Two children were born to this union, Mrs. Pearl Bragaw, of Independence, and Otis Whipple Church, who gave his life while in battle on the fields of France, one of the heroes, on September 26, 1918. There also survive two brothers, James Church of Augusta, Kansas and Sylvester Gilliam of Willard, Missouri, and a sister, Mrs. Nancy Long of Belle Plaine, Iowa. The widow and granddaughter, Miss Maxine Burdetta Bragaw of Independence. He was a member of the Court of Honor, of Waterloo. He moved to Waterloo, returning to the farm in this county last spring. His honesty and integrity were unquestioned and he led the life of a quiet, honorable citizen. The loss of a loving husband and father comes as a great blow to the grieving family.
