PLAINS…….Funeral Services for Velma Lucille Dearing, 97, of Plains will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 17, 2020 in the First Baptist Church with Tyler and Blake Hicks officiating. Interment will follow in the Plains Cemetery, under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.

Velma passed away on March 13, 2020 in Denver City, Texas.
She was born August 28, 1922, in Scurry County, Texas to Austin Nathaniel and Ida Jane Wilson Addison. Velma married Jesse Melvin Dearing in March 1954 in Plains, Texas. During WWII she was employed as a riveter for Allied Aircraft in Fort Worth, and was a farmer’s wife since her marriage. Velma was a former postal worker with the Tokio route. She was a member of the Garden Club, Home Demonstration Club and the First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse on November 17, 1989, also four brothers Raymond, Clistus, Austin and Claude.

Velma is survived by her two sons Melvin Dearing and his wife Dawn, Marvin Dearing and his wife Tammye all of Plains; five grandchildren Jeremy Dearing, Cassandra Erickson, Wyatt Dearing, Lee Dearing, Katie Dearing; two great grandchildren Calleigh Erickson, Chelsea Erickson; two sisters Thelma Lee Cheatham, Willie Mae Engle; two sisters-in-law Rachel Addison, Phyllis Addison.
