Grandmother Steever died at her home, southeast of town on Sunday, March 17, at the age of 88 years 4 months and 24 days. She had been in feeble health for a number of years and her death was not unexpected.
Mary Ann Hannawalt was born in Mifflin county, Penn., Oct. 22, 1823. She located in Jefferson county, Iowa in 1840 and was married to Amon Steever on March 26, 1848. To this union nine children were born, six sons and three daughters, six of whom survive her. She resided in Iowa until 1873, she then came with her family to Nebraska and located in Polk county and has made this her home since that time. She leaves to mourn her death her six children, seventeen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Tuesday from the home. Rev. McClure having charge of the services. The burial was at Hoffer cemetery.
