Resident of Centerville for Almost Half Century Died at Hospital
Wednesday Evening
Mary E. Kelly, for practically half a century a resident of this city, died at St. Joseph's hospital last night at 8:55 o'clock following illness superinduced by paralysis and influenza. Mary Ryan was born in Dayton, Ohio, Feb. 22, 1853, and moved with her parents to Edina, Missouri, when a small girl. It was there she spent her girlhood and young womanhood and united in marriage with John E. Kelly, then a school teacher, 51 years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly moved to this city where the husband engaged in railroad work and later upon retiring, too up truck gardening as an occupation. To their union seven children were born, three of whom preceded the mother in death. Those surviving are John of El Reno, Oklahoma, Ed at home, Joe at Brookfield, Mo., and Mrs. Mary Christiansen of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Surviving brothers are Dan, Mike and James Ryan, all of Edina, Missouri. There were three brothers who preceded Mrs. Kelly in death. The husband passed away 20 years ago. Mrs. Kelly was known as a woman of sterling character, was a member of the Catholic church and the Woman's Relief Corps. Her death comes as a sorrow to all those many friends and relatives who knew her.
