Daryl Houger
Darty Houger, 71, died on Thursday, April 16, 1987, at his home in Park Rapids, Minnesota.

Daryl Yale Houger was born on August 12, 1915, to Alvin and Maybell (Collins) Houger in Flaxville, Montana. His childhood was spent in Osakis, Minnesota, where he graduated from high school in 1933. He worked on the family farm until his marriage to Dorothy Larson, from Alexandria, on October 5, 1940 in Osakis. To this union three children were born: Sharon Kay, Donald Eugene and Nanette Joy. After farming for a number of years near Alexandria and Faribault, they moved to Montevideo in 1955 where he became agent of the Railway Express. During those years he began painting as a sideline. This he continued after moving to Park Rapids in 1973 and until 1985. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Montevideo and Faith Baptist Church of Park Rapids where he had served as a deacon, financial secretary and choir member. His hobbies included reading, hunting and fishing. Daryl believed in a personal commitment to God and that this commitment should be reflected in all we do and say.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Park Rapids; one son, Donald and wife Jean of Colorado Springs, CO; two daughters, Sharon and husband Paul Hokuf of Pinewood, MN; and Nanette and husband David Swartley of Park Rapids, MN; seven grandsons and one granddaughter, one sister, Mrs. Lorenzo (Bill) Pickavance of Albert Lea, MN; and one brother, Aldyn Houger of Aitkin, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Oryn (Jim) Houger.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 1987, at the Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids with pastor Abe Cardosa officiating. The Reverend Fred Tuma of Anoka and Dr. Victor Cottrell of Lincoln, Nebraska, longtime friends of the family, brought testimonials in memory of Daryl.

Jane Wolff was the organist and Russell Carter was the soloist who sang, "Jesus Led Me All The Way" and "God Hath Not Promised." Congregational hymn was "It Is Well With My Soul."

Honorary casketbearers were Maurice Gustafson, Henry Evert, Howard Barett, Milt Bergstrom, Ben Fadenrecht, Bob McClelland, Gerald Eveland and Alfred Oksness.
