Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for James "Jim" Gilliard, 1201 McDonald Road, who passed away Thursday night at the Douglas-Coffee County Hospital following an extended illness. He was 63 years of age and a native of Coffee County. Last rites were held at Chatterton Church with the Rev. B. E. Donehoo officiating. Music was furnished by the church choir.

Survivors include his wife, the former Lizzie Anderson Gilliard, four sons, Edison Gilliard, Jacksonville, Henry Gilliard, Fernandina, J. L. and Warnie Gilliard, Waycross, three daughters Mrs. Adel Crews, Mrs. Ineva Griffin, Waycross, and Mrs. Vennie Reed, Douglas; three stepsons James and Amos Spell, Jacksonville, John Larry Batten of Douglas; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Deloris Carter, Mrs. Zelphia Crews, Mrs. Minnie Fleming, Waycross, Mrs. Louise Batten, Mrs. Ruby Bryant and Mrs. Janey Jewell, Douglas, two brothers, Leon Gilliard, Douglas, and A. J. Gilliard, Jacksonville.

Pallbearers were Man Holton, Sylvester Nettles, Quincey Nettles, Leo Gilliard, Estelle Gilliard, and William Powell. Interment was in Chatterton cemetery with Sims Funeral Home in charge.
