Ralph Harry Corman, son of Harry Wilson Corman and Rebecca (Horner) Corman, was born September 20, 1920, at Nora, Nebraska. He died Monday, May 18, 1998, at his home in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 28 days.

Ralph attended Superior Public Schools and graduated from Superior High School with the Class of 1938. He was anticipating joining his classmates for the sixtieth class reunion over Memorial weekend.

He served his country in the United States Army being inducted on July 28, 1942. He reported to Camp Roberts, California, for active service on August 12, 1942, for basic training. From there he was sent to Camp Buntner, North Carolina, with the Military Occupational Specialty title of Clerk Typist. He was then sent to Camp Stoneman, San Francisco, California, where he embarked for overseas duty on February 12, 1943. He went to Sidney, Australia, where he was stationed for four weeks, then to Brisbane, Australia, with the 52nd Signal Battalion, to Hollandia, New Guinea, and the Southern Philippines. He returned to the United States December 19, 1945, and was honorably discharged at Ft. Logan, Colorado, on December 31, 1945, as a Staff Sergeant. Ralph was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star.

February 4, 1947, in Hardy, Nebraska, Ralph was united in marriage to Lila Workman. This union was blessed with seven children. Ralph was engaged in farming and employed with the Bureau of Reclamation. The family lived in the communities of Beaver City, Nebraska, Beloit, Kansas, Salida and Carbondale, Colorado, returning to Superior in 1986. In February of 1997, Ralph and Lila celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

He was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church. Also a member of the American Legion of which he was Past Commander and currently Adjutant, V.F.W. and a Charter Member of Elks Lodge #2197, all of Superior. Ralph enjoyed gardening, birds, fishing, traveling and wildlife.

Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant son, Richard Ralph, and a grandson, Eric Durham.

Survivors include his wife Lila of Superior, Nebraska; two sons, John Corman of Rochester, New York, and Tom Corman of Westminster, Maryland; four daughters, Cynthia Newell and her husband Bernard of Concordia, Kansas, Cathy Neptune and her husband Larry of Canyon Lake, Texas, Mary Jane O'Connor of Carrollton, Texas, and Linda Holden and her husband Bill of Twin Bridges, Montana; 12 grandchildren; two great grandchildren, and two step grandsons.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 22, 1998, at 2 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Superior, Nebraska, with Rev. L. Patterson Culligan officiating. Music will be "How Great Thou Art" with Linda Jo Holden as flutist. Carlita Price as pianist and Glenda Thayer-Hiner as organist. Interment with full military rites by Superior VFW and American Legion Posts will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Superior.

Pallbearers will be Dan Corman, Kerry Corman, Kenny Corman, Fred Huffman, Al Jorgensen and Todd Sporing. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Noren, Soren Thomsen, Roy Blauvelt and Jim Peterson. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska, is in charge of arrangements.
