BANGOR and CORINTH Rachel W. Merrill, 79, wife of the late Theodore Roosevelt Merrill, died Aug. 2, 2004, at a Bangor hospital, after a long illness. She was born Oct. 15, 1924, daughter of Thurston and Helen (Chandler) Wiggin. She graduated from East Corinth Academy. Rachel was a homemaker for most of her life, and did work at the Homemaker Center and some nursing aide work. Rachel was a member of the Corinth United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women's Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Corinth American Legion Auxiliary.
Rachel is survived by her daughters, Sheila Goodwin of Bangor, whom she resided with these past four years, Mary Louise Hatch and her husband, Danny, of Harpswell, Carolyn McHale and her husband, George, of Corinth; her grandchildren, Scott Hatch and his wife, Kristy, of Fairfax, Va., Debra Bell and her husband, William, of Bangor; two step-grandchildren, Steven Goodwin and his family of Veazie, Diane Simpson and her husband, David, of Glenburn. Also surviving are sisters, Annette Webber of Garland, Elizabeth Vigue of Corinth; brothers, Richard Wiggin and his wife, Marlene, of Bangor, and Floyd Wiggin of Corinth; a sister-in-law, Marion Wiggin Hardy of Orono; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Carlton J. Wiggin Sr.; and a son-in-law, Edwin Goodwin. (Bangor Daily News 8/3/2004
