Mary Manter was born circa 1668 at Falmouth, Mass. before her parents removed to Tisbury on Martha's Vineyard, Mass. She was the dau. of John Manter and Martha Lumbert of Barnstable, Falmouth and Tisbury, Mass. She married circa 1687 at Tisbury, Peter Robinson, son of the immigrant Isaac Robinson. Peter's father and Mary's parents were adjoining neighbors at Tisbury for more than 30 years.
Peter Robinson and Mary Manter had three children:
• i. Sarah Robinson, b. May 5, 1688.
• ii. Abiah Robinson, b. September 23, 1693.
• iii. Israel Robinson, b. March 16, 1694/95.
Mary died at Tisbury before 1696, more likely sometime in 1695 after the birth of son Israel. Her husband then married by early 1696 Mary's cousin, Experience Lumbert, since Experience's first of thirteen children, son Peter, was born at Tisbury December 7, 1696.
Mary (Manter) Robinson's maternal grandfather was Ens. Barnard Lumbert of Barnstable, Mass. Barnard's much younger half-brother was Jedediah Lumbert, the father of Experience (Lumbert) Robinson.
