First wife was Ellen Barnes which according to documentation, he married about 1873 in Pennsylvania. They had several children including Mary E. b. 1874, Elizabeth S. b. 1876, Calvin W. b. 1878, Emma S. b. 1879, Sarah Edith b. 1881, Anna b. 1884, and Hazel Amanda b. 1887. His wife Ellen died in Ohio after which time he moved with his family to Porter County and then to the Chicago area. They lived in Chicago Heights and Phillip was employed as a brick burner.

Married Etta Smith Harbrecht in St Patrick's Catholic Church on Oct 16, 1894 and they were the parents of four children (all four born in Chicago Heights-three died in Chicago Heights), three of which died in infancy: Nevada, Ethel Marie and Sylvester; and Laurence b. 1902 in Chicago Heights survived.

DIES AT HOME IN CHESTERTON
Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Chesterton this afternoon for Philip Dillinger, age 82, a resident of Chesterton the greater part of his life. Rev. E.F. Eisenhardt officiated and burial was in St. Patrick's cemetery. Mr. Dillinger died Saturday at his home after a short illness. Surviving are his widow Etta, and a son Lawrence.
[No mention of step-son. Step-son William Harbrecht was still alive; did not die until May 1968]
