An Old Resident Dead
William Cook was born in Yates County, New York, July 27, 1828. At the age of 10 years he moved with his parents to Athens County, Ohio, and on March 1, 1851, was married to Miss Emily Joy. To the union five children were born, one of whom, the youngest, died in infancy. His wife and four remaining children, together with nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, survive him. His only remaining full brother died but two weeks ago, so that of his father's family only two remain, a sister and half brother, both living in Ohio.
Mr. Cook was one of the oldest residents of Savannah, having come to this place with his family March 5, 1865. For some time after coming here he was engaged in the banking business, later becoming interested in stock raising and feeding. He owned several tracts of valuable land near Savannah, some of which he held until recently. For several years he has not been actively engaged in business, but living quietly at his home in Savannah at which he died, Friday, April 10, 1908, aged 70 years, 8 months, and 10 days. Funeral services were conducted at the home Sunday afternoon, April 12, by the Rev. W. I. Searborough, and the interment was in Savannah Cemetery.
