Burton Cameron came to Flagstaff in 1887 with his mother, worked with his brothers in the copper mine at the Grand Canyon, and assisted in building the Bright Angel Trail, the main south rim trail. He served as Coconino County assessor from 1906 to 1912 and also served on the Flagstaff City Council.
