Grace M. Nelson, age 92, died Mon., Oct. 26, 2009 in Vancouver, WA. She was born Oct. 8, 1917 in Portland, OR to the late Roy and Ida Chambers. In 1923 Grace moved to Vancouver where she attended Ft. Vancouver High School and also graduated from business school.
Grace worked for the Federal Land Bank in Vancouver.
In 1945 she married her husband, Raymond Nelson. They lived in Fossil, OR for several years then moved back to Vancouver where they started their family and Grace became a full-time mother.
Grace enjoyed square dancing, sewing, golfing, and camping and clam digging at the beach.
She was a cancer survivor and volunteered at the American Cancer Society Thrift Store and the First Congregational Church in Hazel Dell.
Grace is survived by her daughter, Mary (Neil) McMillan in Hood River, OR; beloved grandsons, Phil (Ayn) McMillan of Boise, ID and Ben (Charmaine) McMillan of Hilo, HI; and great-granddaughter, Olivia Grace McMillan.
She was preceded by her husband, Raymond Nelson; parents, Roy and Ida Chambers; and sister; Olive Chambers.
A graveside service for Grace will be held at 1:00 p.m., Fri., Oct. 30, 2009 at Park Hill Cemetery, 5915 E. Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver.
Memorial donations are appreciated to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
