E.W. Root Succumbs In Hospital

Edward William Root, 80, of 400 Birch street, Kingsford, a resident of this area since 1963, died at 12:20 a.m. Saturday in the Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.

Mr. Root was born March 25, 1885, in Seattle, Wash. Prior to his retirement he was employed by the Illinois Public Welfare Department in Chicago. He moved to Kingsford from Chicago.

Mr. Root was an avid sports fan and was a personal friend of former heavyweight boxing champion Jack Dempsey.

He was a member of the Oriental Lodge of Masons, the Council and the Royal and Select Masons, all of Chicago.

He leaves his wife, Evelyn; a brother, Talcott B. Root, of Hemet, Calif., and a nephew, Dr. George T. Root, of Culver City, Calif.

Services were held at 1 this afternoon at the Freeman Funeral Home. Rev. Canon J. William Robertson officiated. Burial was in Cemetery Park.

Masonic memorial rites were conducted by the Iron Mountain Masonic Lodge last night at the funeral home.
