Dies After
Short Illness
Mrs. Julia C. Scattergood, 91, died early Saturday evening at Lockwood General hospital where she had been a medical patient since May 30. Mrs. Scattergood resided at 1006 East Mitchell street.
Born Sept. 7, 1856, in Gratiot county, she was the former Miss Julia Church, daughter of Lafayette Church, a pioneer Baptist minister there. She was married to William B. Scattergood at Ithaca on May 31, 1876, and they made their home there until coming to Petoskey in 1902. Mr. Scattergood died in 1921.
She was a member of the Baptist church here, and a charter member of the DAR, being the last living granddaughter of a Revolutionary War veteran in this district.
Surviving are two sons, William and Walter, both of Petoskey; three daughters, Miss Bessie Scattergood, of Petoskey, and Mrs. C. L. Thompson and Mrs. Wilson McDonald, both of Lansing; and one brother, Willard Church, of Medford, Ore.
Funeral services will be held at Stones Funeral home at 8 p.m. tonight with the Rev. R. L. Matthews officiating. The body will be taken to Ithaca on Tuesday where services will be held at the Barden Funeral home at 2:30 that afternoon. Burial is to be in the family lot at the Ithaca cemetery.
