Last Rites Monday for Mrs. Charley, Pioneer of Valley
Memorial services will be held Monday at 2 p.m., at the Perl Funeral Home for Mrs. Emogene Charley who passed away Friday. The Rev. D. E. Millard will officiate and interment will follow in the family plot in Brownsboro cemetery.
Mrs. Charley came to the end of life's earthly trail after 79 years of colorful and useful pioneering in Jackson county. She was born on her father's rance, between Brownsboro and Lake Creek and aside from aobut three years spent in Montana, her entire life was lived on the same ranch.
Her father, Henry R. Brown, came to the Rogue River valley in 1852 and mined the Jacksonville area. He returned to Wisconsin and married and came west again with his wife and 12 head of thoroughbred Morgan horses and homesteaded the rance on which Emogene Charley was born October 23, 1866. The town of Brownsboro was named after the father.
Mrs. Charley's husband passed away in 1910 and since that time she has been active with her three sons in managing the ranch.
Besides her three sons, Floyd, Claus and Charley, who still reside on part of the original ranch, Mrs. Charley is survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
